Punching a gift horse in the face...

...or something like that.

I'll just leave this here.

Things have been happening. Things. Which I believe warrants an acceptable excuse for not composing a seemingly random string of words and sloppily pasting them on this digital soapbox as of late. That is, until now. With a vengeance.

A while ago, Mary - a friend who may or may not be indirectly related to increased consumption of alcohol as of late - asked me to do some quick sketches for a project she was working on. She works at a high-end tea cafe and she was tasked in putting together a brochure. She thought to herself - as Marys are wont to do - that the brochure/booklet/thing would be greatly improved by some illustrations. Now, I'm no mind reader, nor an expert in the thought patterns of either wild or domesticated Marys, but based on her actions I'm led to believe that she then thought, Hey, my ruggedly handsome and infinitely charming friend X'aimi (see also: me) is an illustrator, and he is quite fond of earning money...

I have no evidence to refute this, but I believe she was then momentarily distracted by something shiny before deciding to have her boss commission me to illustrate the booklet. "Just a few quick sketches" she said.

To many illustrations, a fuck-bucket of revisions, and a god-damned suit-and-tie interview later, and I may just now be done with the bloody thing. Maybe.

Actually not fucking likely. But I'm at a stopping point at the moment, regardless of how long that moment may be, so I figured I'd make an effort to post.

To be blunt, the client is confused and indecisive, which makes my job a pain in the ass, but it is my first paying illustration job, and it's already opened some doors for future gigs, so I shouldn't complain. But I'm going to anyway. Fuck this.

[Play with me. That didn't come out right.]

Nicole - the perpetually awesome and lovely woman who continues to tolerate my presence - got me a PS3 for Christmas. With LittleBigPlanet. If you don't know what LittleBigPlanet is, google it because I don't feel like explaining it here. But anyway, I've been fascinated with it since it was released. Partly due to it's adorable, crafty aesthetic, but mainly because of it's "create and share your own custom levels" feature.

So, in between the many, many revisions of stylized japanese/english fusion related images, I've been putting together some LittleBigPlanet levels. I'm still toying with gameplay ideas, but the overall story is going to revolve around a mad scientist and his wacky creations. In terms of thematics, I'm something of a one-trick-pony, you see.

I'm not ready to publish them, but as soon as they're up, I'll post an announcement here.

It's like this game was made for me.
